Village Hall Play Area

The new Parish Council play area was opened in September 2006. The facilities, off Stockett Lane, provide an entertaining and colourful area for children up to fourteen years old to meet friends and develop their agility in a safe environment. The site was chosen to be in close proximity to the Village Hall, which hosts Coxheath Preschool and after-school dance classes for children of primary school age. A sports wall and youth shelter was also provided at the top end of the field to the rear of the village hall, for the benefit of older children.

From September 2004, a group of Parish Councillors set aside funds and sought external funding for this facility. Eventually after an unsuccessful attempt in 2005, backed by a Statement of Community Support signed by over 300 residents, Maidstone Borough Council agreed to match the money raised by the Parish Council. The Village Hall management committee kindly allowed the Parish to use their land for this facility and construction started eventually in July 2006.

The provision of a fenced area encompassing toddler and junior swings, a large climbing frame with a slide, a roundabout and a twister was completed in August 2006. The play area was formally opened by Mrs Evelyn Heywood, who had just completed 35 years service as Clerk to the Parish Council, on 23rd September 2006. Over 40 villagers attended the opening ceremony.

The play area continues to be well used and is inspected weekly by the Parish Council.
